Ken – Biology, Chemistry and Maths

“Hi, my name is Ken! I am a third year medical student at Hull-York Medical School, and I absolutely love helping students thrive! My tutoring journey started back in Year 13 when I mentored students in a maths clinic at school and assisted with Year 7 classes. Since then, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of working with over 20 fantastic students ranging all the way from Year 7 to Year 13.

I’ve been tutoring Maths, Biology and Chemistry for a few years now, and the biggest thing I’ve noticed has been the importance of patience and encouragement – it helps that I’ve been through the experience recently as I feel I can really relate with my students! I bring constant encouragement and relatable insights to every single session to make learning both fun and engaging!

My ultimate goal after completing my medical degree is to enter internal medicine training. I love the puzzle of diagnosing complex conditions and caring for patients holistically — and the same problem-solving skills and dedication I use in medicine are exactly what I bring to my tutoring lessons!

When I’m not studying or tutoring, I like to play the saxophone in concert band and table tennis. Also, I like having board game nights with my university friends. I’m also a massive anime fan and love winding down by reading e-novels on my phone.”

Amal – Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths

“Hello, I’m Amal! I am a third-year medical student at Hull-York Medical School. I’m planning to complete a Master’s in Data Science after my third year, to hopefully gain more experience in the emerging field of data analysis in healthcare.

I began tutoring in secondary school, where I used to tutor friends and family, and organise study groups. I spent my final year at sixth form tutoring A-Level biology to fellow students, and since my second year of uni I have been tutoring Biology, Chemistry and Maths online. What I have loved about it most so far, is that it is one of those jobs where work doesn’t really feel like work! I love getting to know my students and finding ways to motivate them individually, because studying is about so much more than just grades.

In my free time, I love to rotate between about 20 different hobbies – these days you may find me roller skating at the university Roller Rink, going on a hike with my family or starting yet another crochet project. When I’m home I also like spending time with my 5 chickens and watching animated movies!”
